Havanese
The Havanese get their name from their port of origin, Havana, Cuba. Havanese, is the National Dog of Cuba, and remains that country's only native breed. They are a part of the Bichon family, consisting of the Bichon Frise, the Bolognese, the Lowchen, the Maltese, the Havanese and the Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka. Each breed within this Bichon group developed consistant with it's geographic orgin. The Havanese come in a variety of coat colors, including both solid colors, and parti colors. They have a profuse, wavy, silky coat, of hair rather than fur. They carry their tail in a plume over their back. They do require frequent brushing to keep their coat matt free, and in good condition.The popularity of the Havanese has grown quickly over the years both in the show ring and as a family pet. Though the Havanese first became a recognized breed of the AKC in 1996, the breed has a long history. The Havanese is a product of the the prevailing climate and culture of Cuba. The Havanese is intelligent, and has a naurally affectionate temperament, which makes the breed an ideal family pet. Their non-shedding coat makes it suitable for allergy sufferers. |
